A recording made around 5 am in early april. . . . The peaceful but yet exhilirating ambience of spring birds and crickets. There is an ocassional cricket who sounds like he literally must have been sitting point-blank in front of my microphone - a great surprise, you can literally hear his wings stridulating. Recorded using the handy zoom h4n and the built-in stereo mics.

First spring time thunderstorms hit the metro detroit today. This is a short sample of my original 2 hour recording that i thought was particularly nice. You'll hear several little thunder rumbles and rain in an city night atmosphere. Feel free to use.

This sound was recorded via the use of a behringer b2 microphone, fostex fr2 and a home made parabolic reflector made from a tv satellite dish. The source of the sound was between 100m-200m away from the microphone. This has been eq'ed with high-end shelving to reduce gain noise, low-end shelved up to 1khz (to reduce wind and background noise) and the overall gain has been increased. A soundscape of several thunderstorms mixed together to create a uniquely immersive, full field recording. This editing process allows for rain and thunder strikes to be recorded at different volumes and creates a more diverse atmosphere with different types of rain, wind, and ambiance melded into one found sound. Although each storm was recorded in a slightly different location, everything is from the greater detroit, mi, usa area. -recorded entirely with a tascam dr-03 set at 48 k / 24 bit. Then each different storm was edited together in magix music maker. -this album version fades out with a simple, repeating synth line.

Field recording of the tail end of a brief rain shower recorded approximately 1 foot (30 cm) from the sidewalk and 183cm from the street. You will hear rain pattering against the sidewalk, passing cars, one group talking while walking past, distant dogs, and birds.

For the recording, i used the tree-ear method, holding the microphones on either side of a tree, which results in a very wide stereo field (considering the capsules are omni). It was recorded in my backyard on a winter day which was actually more like a spring day.
